Alonso makes decision about his future in Formula 1

Alonso originally said that he would make his decision during the summer break, but it took longer than expected. Meanwhile, Aston Martin was willing to wait for the former two-time world champion, as Chief Trackside Officer Mike Krack said on multiple occasions.

Alonso said: "I'm very happy to sign a new contract with Aston Martin Aramco. I took my time to make this decision, but racing is my life, my passion, and I know I still have the speed and determination to compete at the highest level. I'm committed for the long term with this team and to helping us succeed.

Lance Stroll will also remain with the team, completing Aston Martin's 2027 driver line-up.

The Canadian said: "I'm very happy to continue with Aston Martin Aramco for the long term. I've been on this journey since the beginning and I believe we have the resources and the people to become a winning team.

Lawrence Stroll added: "Lance and Fernando have been a crucial part of our journey and we are very pleased to confirm that they will continue with us into the next chapter for the team. Having two drivers with their level of experience, commitment and knowledge provides tremendous value to the whole organisation.

In a video shared by Aston Martin on social media, the Spaniard also said: "F1 has been great to me. I've had an incredible career. I travelled around the world, I raced for more than 23 years, more than 400 GPs, and I achieved more than I've ever dreamed of.

GPblog has previously reported that the Spaniard was also considering a switch to the World Endurance Championship, where Aston Martin also has a team. In the end, he will remain in Formula 1.
