Verstappen has not minced his words about the current Formula 1 regulations for some time. He compared the current form of racing to Mario Kart.
He previously said: "It's not fun at all, no. It's playing Mario Kart. This is not racing. Look at the racing, you are boosting past and then you run out of battery the next straight, they boost past you again. For me it's just a joke."

"This has nothing to do with racing. I would say the same if I would be winning races because I care about the racing product. It's not about being upset of where I am because I'm actually fighting even more now of course so you get to understand what you have to do and what it is about even more, but for me it's really a joke."

Can these regulations be saved? "You can help it a little bit but it's fundamentally flawed."

Russell reflects on whether Verstappen should leave F1

George Russell was also asked about Verstappen's previous warnings of leaving the series behind. Speaking to a select group of media, including GPblog, he explained: "Well, Formula 1 is bigger than any driver. You wouldn’t want to lose Max, because I think we all enjoy racing against him."
Still, he would understand if the Dutchman decided to leave. "My goal is to become a Formula 1 world champion. If I have four of them under my belt, I'll probably be doing the same. He’s in a very different stage of his career. And yeah, I think you'd understand if he stayed and you'd understand if he went," the Mercedes driver concluded.
