'WEC boss, not Horner, emerges as Ferrari's likelier choice to replace Vasseur'

The first rumors about Vasseur's departure emerged after the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid. Various sources have heard that the Frenchman may have to leave, but no one could confirm with certainty that a decision has been made.

That Vasseur's future is being discussed again may be linked to an interview with Christian Horner which was published ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where the Briton commented on his dream job being at Ferrari. GPblog has also previously reported that there are currently no contacts with Ferrari regarding a potential appointment of the ex-Red Bull Racing team boss.

Vasseur was also asked about the rumors after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He said: "We are not working in the perfect serenity. For me, firstly, but for everybody in the team. For the media, for 50 per cent of the questions about this, I think it’s a bit of a frustrating situation.

Coletta's case rests on endurance racing. He has been a Ferrari man since 1997 and he is currently the Global Head of Endurance and Corse Clienti at the team. From 2023 until 2025, all three 24 Hours of Le Mans races were won by Ferrari cars (twice by the factory team and once by AF Corse). This year however, the best-placed Ferrari finished fifth.

Coletta had already been rumored to take over the Ferrari F1 team during the summer of the 2025 season. Ahead of that year's Hungarian Grand Prix, Vasseur's contract extension was announced.

Last December, Coletta was also asked about the rumors: "We all have our own paths and our own roles. Of course, rumors come out, but that’s normal. We all work within the same company, so I don’t see anything strange in these links that surface from time to time, especially during difficult periods when people are always looking for alternative solutions," he told Sky Sports Italia.

Lewis Hamilton was asked by Sky Sports whether he still considers Vasseur the right person to lead the team. The seven-time world champion responded with a simple and unequivocal "Yes" to the question.

Asked what needs to be done in the remaining races of the season, the Briton once again kept his answer brief, responding simply: "Keep trying."
