Max Verstappen is currently at the center of speculations that place him away from Red Bull Racing and in the ranks of fierce rivals to the Austrians, Mercedes. However, the Dutchman himself may have broke his silence on his former teammate Sergio Perez's future. On Thursday George Russell blew the lid clean off the Verstappen-Mercedes case with his revelation that 'ongoing conversations' were taking place between both parties.
In fact, team boss to the German outfit Toto Wolff was grilled today by the media with questions regarding his drivers Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli's futures in
F1, a potential deadline for Verstappen to join Mercedes and more. Helmut Marko then revealed his stance on Verstappen's and Wolff's 'conversations' following FP2.
Verstappen spoke too much?
During his Podbook, Ted Kravitz seemed to suggest that Verstappen knew what Perez would be doing next with his motorsport career, namely a return to F1.
“He also said, ‘I can’t wait to see Checo Perez in the paddock again, because I need to give him that helmet [for a helmet swap].' Putting a little bit of fuel on the rumours that Checo is near the top of the list for the Cadillac drive next year.” It is of GPblog's understanding that Perez is in did on Cadillac's list of candidates to complete their driver line-up. However, Valtteri Bottas is also a candidate with experience, just like Cadillac hope to have onboard to shape the team into a winning outfit.
Nevertheless, with
Colton Herta's path to F1 being compromised due to the lack of results necessary to get him the necessary finishing position in the standings to acquire the required - and currently missing - points to attain the FIA's super license to race in F1,
it is not out of the question that the American team employs two experienced drivers, which would put the Mexican and the Finn in both of the seats that the General Motors backed team will premiere next season.
