Carlos Sainz has explained the reasons behind his decision to remain with Williams for another season, despite the British team enduring a disappointing first half of the campaign compared to expectations. The Grove-based outfit will continue to prioritise stability, retaining the same driver line-up that began last season into 2027. Alex Albon and Sainz will therefore remain teammates for a third consecutive year, following
the Thai driver's announcement yesterday.Explaining the reasons behind his decision to remain with Williams, Sainz stressed that his confidence in the people around him played a major role in his choice. The Spaniard believes the team has the talent, motivation and passion needed to be successful and, ultimately, to bring Williams back to the top.
His faith in the project is also strengthened by the changes taking place behind the scenes, with Sainz pointing to the investments and various projects currently underway as evidence that the team is moving in the right direction.
While acknowledging that Williams has hit a bump in the road this season, Sainz remains confident about what lies ahead. Despite the difficulties encountered so far, he believes the team has all the necessary ingredients to recover from its current situation, bounce back and return stronger.
“There are many reasons to stay and continue to push with the team. First and foremost, because of the people who form this big family. I believe in the strength of the group in order to be successful, and I think the people at Williams have the right talent, motivation and passion to bring this team back to the top.
“There are also a lot of changes, investments and projects happening in the background that make me believe we are on the right path. We have hit a bump in the road this season, but we have all the right ingredients to bounce back and come back stronger.”
Sainz also pointed to the way Williams operates internally as another factor behind his commitment to the project. Since arriving at Grove, the Spaniard has been encouraged by the level of communication across the team, from James Vowles and senior management to those working throughout the organisation.
That environment has allowed difficult topics to be addressed openly when necessary, with the focus remaining on identifying areas that need improvement and making progress as a group. For Sainz, that way of working has been a consistent feature of his time at Williams and an important part of his relationship with the team.
“One of the things I value the most is having a straightforward relationship. Since day one at this team, I have experienced that not only with James, the rest of the management team and the Board members, but also with the different individuals across the entire organisation. To improve and move forward, it is important to be transparent and honest, and to have a working environment in which everyone can take responsibility for their actions with a view to improving. Those are the sort of conversations I have had at this team.”
