Alex Albon has signed a new contract with Williams, keeping him with the team in 2027.
Williams announced the news ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix and amid a difficult start to the season.
In a statement, the Thai-British driver said: “Since joining Atlassian Williams F1 Team in 2022, the transformation this team has made is difficult to put into words.
“One tough year doesn’t tell the full picture, and it only gives me more motivation to keep building and pushing together with the factory and our fans to achieve great things.
“Our story is not over yet, so my full focus now is on doing whatever it takes to get us back up the grid.”

Williams team principal James Vowles added: “I am delighted that Alex and Atlassian Williams F1 Team are continuing our extraordinary journey together.
“Alex has been a leader of this transformation project since day one and we have plenty of unfinished business that we are determined to achieve."
In a social media message to Williams' fans, Albon said: "I am continuing my journey with Williams, I just wanted to say a big thank you for all the support.
"I know we've had our highs and lows, unfortunately more lows recently, but you are with us all the time and we always feel very grateful to have all that support.

"Here's to many more races together, keeping pushing us forward and you'll see me in blue for many more races to come."
Albon is currently a lowly 16th in the drivers' standings on five points, just below teammate Carlos Sainz on six. Williams, meanwhile, are ninth in the standings, only ahead of Aston Martin and newcomers Cadillac.
Their lack of form in 2026 has seen serious pressure placed on team principal Vowels, and Sainz fail to distance himself from a departure.
However, Albon thinks there's a much bigger picture to look at in his fifth season with the team.

Albon explains why he is staying with Williams

Explaining his decision further, he told Williams' media team: "Even though it's been a tough year, the response of the team back at the factory, and the work that's been put in to understand our issues, has been huge.
"In many ways, it has felt like we've needed this tough moment to really accelerate some of the aggressive plans to fix some core problems within the car that have plagued us for years.
"I haven’t seen the team sink their teeth into something so aggressively in the way they have this year, so I really do believe we're going to find the reasons why we've been going through these issues."
Albon recently took Nigel Mansell's record for the most starts with Williams, although his best result this season has been eighth in Monaco.

Last year Albon recorded his best season since leaving a dominant Red Bull in 2020, finishing eighth overall in the drivers' championship with 73 points and four fifth-place finishes.

Yet this season things have dropped off, and the blame has largely been place at Vowles' door.
Sainz recently commented that he's 'not convinced' by the team's progress and he continues to be touted with a departure as he doesn't have a contract for 2027.

But Albon has explained why he's so keen to continue with Vowles and Williams.

Albon backs Vowles despite Williams struggles

"Obviously, I have a great relationship with the team," he said. "I really do enjoy working with everyone - the team at the factory, the team at the racetrack, but also the board and James himself.
"We've clearly formed a strong relationship in the four or five years that we've been working together. We've also hired some great people within the organisation, targeting areas we know we've been struggling in as a team. I think it's great to see how honest we are about that.
"Speaking with James, and him showing me the planning around the number of people who've joined the team in the last 12 months, but also how he's still looking at other areas of the company - it's clear the investment and the strategy towards powering our workforce, and hiring the best of the best, is what's going to help us get to the top quicker."

Albon sees new Williams hires as key to F1 recovery

Looking ahead to the future, he added: "The future is very much the same as what I'm doing now - getting involved with the team, trying to help as much as we can to accelerate the learnings and the progression to get back to the top quicker.
"There is even more hunger and determination from myself to make sure we get back as quickly as we can. The only thing you'll see is the same level of commitment, if not more, to make sure this works.
"I'm interested to see how the new hires will come in and shape the team. We already have a great group of people at Grove, but we do need fresh minds and ideas to come through - a new way of thinking, a new way of working around manufacturing and production.

"I'm excited to see these roles become embedded within the team and for progress in these areas to begin. I know it doesn't take one person, but everyone together, to drive this change and strive for more."

Albon points to Williams past as reason for optimism

Finally, Albon spoke about his highlights at Williams, finishing: "I have a lot of highlights. It would be easy to think about last year and how many great races we had, but my big ones are probably: my first race with Williams - a standout moment, just being back in Formula 1 with a team that gave me so much support fro m day one.
"Canada 2023 stands out a lot too - that was the first time, under James, that we had an amazing upgrade that basically turned our year around. Qualifying P4 in Zandvoort the same year was another testament to the progress we were making.
"And then the first race weekend in Melbourne last year, when we were able to deliver such a competitive car so early in the final set of regulations - coming from a team that had the slowest car in 2022 to out-qualify the Ferraris in 2025. It's a good moment to reflect on and to show the importance of not overreacting to what we're going through this year, and to remember that it's still the same people, the same team, that were able to compete with the very best last year."
