According to reports Max Verstappen's first mechanic Matt Caller, has left Red Bull and would be Audi bound. According to The Race, Caller is thus making the switch from
Red Bull Racing to Audi. What his new role at the Hinwil-based to will be it is not yet known.
The Briton joined Red Bull in a second mechanic role in the 2015 campaing. As of 2022, however, Caller had been Verstappen's first mechanic, playing a key role in three of the Dutchman's titles, and the last two Constructors' championships Red Bull won.
Audi makes the moves
In preparation for their transformation next year from Sauber into Audi, led by Mattia Binotto, COO and CTO of the German brand's
F1 project, the team has been busy recruiting team members from rival teams,
such as the two key engine department figures it lured from Ferrari a couple of weeks ago. That the Swiss team has now gone for Caller doesn't come as a surprise, given the fact that
Jonathan Wheatley, former Sporting Director at Red Bull Racing, now Sauber's team principal, knew the British mechanic first hand, and hence his abilities and talents.
