There is a growing sense of optimism at Ferrari after putting their upgraded SF-25 through a rear suspension test at Mugello, as the Scuderia look to turn around what has been a disappointing 2025 Formula 1 season so far.

Hamilton and Leclerc put upgrade to the test

As reported by Formula 1 Web Magazine Italia, Ferrari conducted a filming day permitted under FIA regulations, with a 200km run used to evaluate the new rear suspension.
Reserve driver Antonio Giovinazzi completed a pair of installation laps in the baseline SF-25 before handing the track over to Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, who tested the revised set-up. The goal: to fix long-standing stability and ride-height issues, unlocking greater set-up flexibility heading into the second half of the season.

Why this upgrade matters

Ferrari have struggled to replicate their strong end to 2024, which saw them push McLaren to the wire in the Constructors’ Championship. In 2025, however, the team has been limited to just four podiums, all scored by Leclerc, with a best result of P2 in Monaco.
The hope is that this suspension change will give the SF-25 the balance and consistency it has lacked so far, helping Ferrari close the gap to McLaren and Red Bull.

More changes coming

It’s not just the suspension that Ferrari are addressing. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, a power steering update is scheduled for the Hungarian Grand Prix, following driver complaints at Silverstone. Both Hamilton and Leclerc reportedly struggled with the car’s handling in high-speed corners, prompting the development.
With Spa and Budapest crucial before the summer break, Ferrari are betting on these changes to finally spark a much-needed turnaround.
