The FIA has warned Formula 1 teams in Las Vegas not to use tricks that make the tyres warmer than permitted, The Race reports. Two teams were said to have been caught doing so during FP3. If something similar happens in an official session, that could lead as far as disqualification.
It is relatively cold in Las Vegas, and the asphalt temperature is low as well. That is one of the reasons teams are finding it difficult to get the tyres up to the right temperature.
Slick tyres can be strictly preheated to 70 degrees Celsius for two hours before a session begins, which can be reached by using tyre blankets.
It is therefore not allowed to preheat the tyres above that in a cold Las Vegas. To check whether the tyres are not too hot, stewards use heat guns.

Tyres too warm for two teams

It was observed during the final free practice session that two teams used tyres that were warmer than 70 degrees. It is unknown which teams they were.
Regardless, these teams were informed by the FIA of the findings and were instructed not to heat the tyres above the permitted limit for qualifying and the Grand Prix.
In any case, the tyres had to be cooled down before being used on track, or teams needed to switch to a new set to avoid being reported to the stewards.
