Toto Wolff enjoys the current battle against Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion was once again the closest driver to the two Mercedes cars in FP3 of the Austrian Grand Prix. After winning the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix,
Hamilton was once again close to
George Russell and
Kimi Antonelli during the final free practice session of the Austrian Grand Prix. Moreover, Hamilton could likely still find some more time in Turn 3, where he experienced issues multiple times during the session, similar to his teammate Charles Leclerc.
"I am enjoying the fight. He has good momentum so it would be good if we can break that," Wolff told Sky Sports after FP3 at the Red Bull Ring.
Hamilton's victory in Barcelona was the first time that not a Mercedes car crossed the finish line in first place during a Grand Prix this year. Wolff continued: "It's always good from time to time when things are running smoothly to have a bit of a scare, to show things can turn around very quickly. Lewis was very fast, so it keeps you on your toes and I think that's good sometimes."
Wolff expects 'gloves off' qualifying at the Red Bull Ring
Less than a tenth separated Russell and Antonelli today in Austria. Wolff also expects a close session. "It is always good to be top of the timesheet. I think the car is maybe as good as it gets. It was shuddering but it is now a little bit better with the changes made. Now it is gloves off for qualifying."
Qualifying will begin at 16:00 local time (15:00 GMT) in Austria. Follow the session with

After his final attempt, Hamilton asked his team to check his gearbox in FP1.
He said over the team radio:
"I locked up in Turn 3, locked the rears. We need to check the gearbox. It said it was shifting but I was still in anti-stall."
