Records are only for Wikipedia, and nobody reads that. Toto Wolff made a certainly interesting comment after the Italian Grand Prix following Max Verstappen's record-setting tenth race win in a row. The Mercedes team boss now looks back on those statements.
After the Italian Grand Prix, Wolff was asked about the record Verstappen had just broken. The Dutchman won his tenth victory in a row at Monza, a unique record. Wolff, however, was not that surprised by it, stating that it was only interesting for Wikipedia, what nobody reads.

Wolff expresses no regrets over statements

Verstappen already made it clear during the press conference on Thursday that he did not understand much about Wolff's comments. 'Mind your own team,' was the Dutchman's message. In the team bosses' press conference, Wolff was also asked about his statements from the previous race weekend.
"When you look at the comments in the circumstances you can think, was it the most intelligent thing that I could have said and it’s maybe not. But it's always been my mindset. It is something that I've taken from Niki. Niki gave his trophies away to get a free car wash. You won't find a lot of memorabilia in my places either because those numbers never mattered for the two of us (Niki Lauda and Wolff)," Mercedes' team principal explained.

"Formula One is a meritocracy and I said it often during this year that only the best will win world championships you need to recognise what a great job is being done there. In the end, they will take another big trophy and that is something that's the most valuable. The best person in the best car wins the world championship," Wolff concluded.
