The Austrian Grand Prix was a dramatic weekend for Max Verstappen — but luckily, the next race is just around the corner, offering a fresh chance for the Dutchman to bounce back. This weekend, it’s time for the British Grand Prix. Here’s everything you need to know about when to tune in so you don’t miss a moment of the F1 action at Silverstone. When will the F1 British GP start in 2025?
On Thursday, July 3rd, the F1 drivers arrive at the
Silverstone circuit for media day. Friday, July 4th, follows the usual schedule with the first two free practice sessions. On Saturday, July 5th, it’s time for the third free practice and qualifying.
Then on Sunday, July 6th, the Grand Prix itself is set to take place.
During Q1, Franco Colapinto caused a red flag after going into the gravel and hitting the wall. While he was able to get out of the gravel, he unfortunately had to stop on the track. This sent all the drivers to the pits.
When the session resumed, it was a free-for-all, with it looking as if Lewis Hamiltonwas going to be knocked out. Luckily for all his fans, he made it into Q2 and then Q3. While he did not take pole position, he does start on the third row ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc.
Verstappen was down in seventh until the very last second as he set purple sectors throughout his last lap and blew the rest of the grid out of the water by 0.103 as he took pole position.
Both Bearman and Antonelli made it into Q3 as well, but due to both of them having grid place penalties, they will drop down to 18th for Bearman and 10th for Antonelli.
Is it Verstappen's Senna-like skills to overturn a nightmare weekend and poise himself to take a surprising result?
Could it be Red Bull's premiered floor upgrade? Or perhaps a mix of both?
"I'm not sure of course how much it did, but for sure it brought something," said the Dutchman referring to the the updated floor to media including GPblog after qualifying.
"And I'm happy of course with any kind of upgrade that we get on the car. We just keep learning, keep trying to be better and take it race by race, what we can do."
Speaking to Viaplay, the Italian claimed to be unsurprised by the Dutchman's performance on Saturday afternoon in the dying moments of qualifying.
"Look, I stopped being impressed by Max Verstappen because it's Max," Stella lauded Verstappen.
"You know he can do anything, he can do anything. I think today he pulled off a superb lap in the final attempt in Q3," added Stella signalling the final push lap where Verstappen was over two tenths quicker than both McLaren drivers after the first two sectors.
The gap however, decreased in the final sector to be naught more than a tenth, a fact that Stella believes magnifies the Dutchman's lap."There is more gap between the pole position and second and between second and fifth so well done to Max," concluded the Italian.
Max Verstappen after qualifying at Silverstone
After the Silverstone qualifying, Viaplay asked Wolff if Briatore had already called him about Bottas's services. Wolff clearly responded: "A few times already, yeah."
Then, when asked if he had received a call from the Alpine executive that day, he said: "I saw him today about Valtteri also, yeah. So there seems to be quite an acceleration in the interest of Valtteri."
The Austrian continued:"I always said I'm never going to block Valtteri. He deserves to be in a race car, he's done so well. If he's being picked up by another team in a full race seat, we will let him go but with a teary eye."
Asked how much Wolff involves himself in Bottas's decision-making process, he said:
"At the end, I give him advice as a friend but Valtteri and in the end they take the decisions where it's going and I try to keep in the back."
