Oscar Piastri has spoken again about the penalty he received under the Safety Car during the Silverstone GP, explaining that he asked his team to get his position back.
After missing out on pole position in yesterday’s qualifying, Oscar Piastri was delivering one of his typically solid performances, making a lightning-fast start that allowed him to attack Max Verstappen in the opening stages and quickly pull away from the Dutchman and his teammate Lando Norris, who was running third at the time.
Then came the controversial incident under the Safety Car, with the stewards deciding to penalize the Australian driver—even though it was technically Verstappen who overtook him.
A similar incident had happened quite recently in Canada, also involving Max Verstappen, but on that occasion no action was taken.

'I can only comment on what I felt I did'

When asked how different that incident was compared to what happened this afternoon, the McLaren driver responded: ''I don't know. I don't know how different it was. I can only comment on what I felt I did, which I felt was well within the rules.''
''I did it once already in that race. I don't really get it. So yeah, I'll go have a look back.''
And regarding the request he made to the team to swap positions with Lando Norris after serving his penalty in the pits, the Aussie finally added: ''I thought I would ask the question. I knew what the answer was going to be before I asked.''
''I just wanted a small glimmer of hope that that maybe I could get it back, but no, I knew it wasn't going to happen.''
