After Max Verstappen placed ninth during the second free practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix, advisor Helmut Marko explained the key changes that caused the downgrade. Speaking to Sky Sports Germany, he said, “We made two small changes between the first and second practice. This had a relatively negative impact on the handling of the car.”
Solution for Verstappen and Red Bull
Marko continued, “That means we are going back [to the old setup]. But it shows how narrow the window of our car is. Nevertheless, I think the long run was very good.”
When reflecting on their performances, he said, “We were close to Piastri [in the long run], and the tire wear was also limited. So, we look forward with optimism."
Verstappen topped the first practice session. He was the fastest on track by 0.039s. Under him were the two Williams drivers in P2 and P3. Neither McLaren made it into the top five. Lando Norris was seventh with his teammate, Oscar Piastri, down in 14th.
