Sky Sports pundit Martin Brundle believes Max Verstappen will eventually decide to leave Red Bull and begin a new chapter with another team, whether that happens at the end of this season or the next. It is a hugely challenging period in the four-time world champion's career, with Verstappen coming off another retirement at Silverstone following a major incident caused by the active aero system on the rear wing, while rumours of
a possible move to McLaren continue to gather momentum.Speaking to Sky Sports, the former
Formula 1 driver said he believes Verstappen will eventually choose to leave Red Bull in search of a fresh challenge, whether that happens in 2027 or 2028. Brundle pointed to
Lewis Hamilton as an example of a driver who benefited from moving on after spending a long period with the same team.
"I think if he could go, he will go at some point, whether it's 2027 or 2028, and do something fresh for him. We see drivers do that. We saw Lewis Hamilton do that, for example, and get a reset and a new challenge after a very long time in a team."

Brundle added that Verstappen had shown faith in Red Bull's new power unit, a decision he believes has been fully justified by its performance. At the same time, he argued that the Dutchman has very limited options if he decides to leave, pointing out that Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes all appear firmly committed to their current driver line-ups, at least through 2027 and potentially well beyond.
"He put some faith in the new Red Bull power unit, and it's proved to be a very good decision. The problem Max has got is that there are only three teams he can look at – Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes – and they all seem very, very locked in to their current driver line-ups for at least 2027, and quite often, way beyond."
Verstappen far from 'zen' attitude after painful Silverstone setback
Verstappen admitted
it is becoming increasingly difficult to stay positive after yet another disappointing weekend, acknowledging the frustration caused by the latest setback.
He said he plans to take a few days to reset before returning his focus to the next race, while making it clear that everyone within the team is giving their maximum effort and insisting that no single person should be held responsible for the situation.
"It would be a very zen person to be optimistic at the moment with what happened again this weekend. I'm sorry, but it's just like that. I need a few days to reset and try again. Everyone is trying their best. I'm not blaming one person or whatever. It's just painful for everyone that this is happening."
