Max Verstappen has often expressed an interest in participating
in different auto racing classes besides Formula 1. According to David Schumacher,
son of Ralf Schumacher, such a foray might come sooner than many think.
In the Sky Sports Deutschland podcast Backstage Boxengasse,
Schumacher speaks candidly about his expectation to see Verstappen in
endurance racing shortly. He hints that the Dutchman could seriously move
towards GT racing, especially if he does not get the opportunity to
participate in other races with Red Bull.
Schumacher expects Verstappen in a 24-hour race soon
Asked if we might soon see Franz Hermann participating in the
DTM or GT World Challenge and what he thinks about all the speculations regarding
Verstappen's F1 future, Schumacher replies: “I can imagine that, if Red
Bull [doesn't] allow him anything else — which I also somewhat understand — Max then
might look elsewhere,” Schumacher says. “He has an incredible amount of
fun in what he does, and certainly in GT racing as well. It seems to bring him
a great deal of joy.”
The 23-year-old German goes even further in his
prediction: “I am quite sure that within two years, maybe even next year, we will
see him at the Nordschleife and in Spa at the 24-hour race.”
