Verstappen sums up title defeat with hilarious pregnancy line

Max Verstappen took the narrow defeat in the drivers’ title fight in Abu Dhabi in his stride.

The Dutchman ultimately lost out on the world championship by just two points to Lando Norris, who expertly managed his advantage in the final race — attacking when it mattered before controlling third place all the way to the checkered flag.

“I think we can be happy that we were even able to fight for the championship,” he told in conversation with Viaplay.

“First of all, we were never actually leading the standings. We also received plenty of gifts ourselves. Then, in the end, you win the race in Las Vegas — and my teammate was disqualified there, otherwise you wouldn’t even be in the picture.”

“Of course, we benefited from that as well. And in the end it comes down to two points. But it doesn’t really matter whether it’s one point, half a point, or twenty points.”

He finally added: "You’re either pregnant or you’re not. You’re not half-pregnant, right?"

Despite missing out on the world title and failing to secure a fifth consecutive championship, the Dutchman admitted he was almost more satisfied with how this season ended than last year, when he won the title but saw the RB20 lose its edge late on to McLaren and Ferrari.

“I actually feel a lot better now,” he said — while still acknowledging that he would, of course, have preferred to take home the title this year as well.
