Verstappen leaves Red Bull boss surprised with his 'deep' obsession

Mekies joined Red Bull Racing last year, replacing Christian Horner as CEO and team principal ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix.

After his promotion from Racing Bulls, Mekies also began working together with Verstappen.

Speaking on the Beyond the Grid podcast, the Frenchman revealed what surprised him the most.

He explained: "The biggest surprise is how deep the connection between Max and motorsport is. He's not just a Formula 1 driver.

"And having somebody like that, that can support you driving the car development, especially through new technology. like the one we have today, is a huge advantage," Mekies concluded.

This week, Verstappen also travelled to the Nordschleife to conduct a private test with his GT3 team.

Speaking in Japan, the Dutchman also addressed the things he would like to sort out before the biggest challenge at the so-called 'Green Hell', the 24 Hours of Nurburgring race.
