Max Verstappen says Monaco can always spring surprises, but highlighted Red Bull Racing’s weaknesses ahead of the weekend in Monte Carlo, which could make things difficult for the Dutchman. Red Bull Racing scored its first ever podium in Monaco. While Verstappen did not rule it out completely, he underlined one area where the Austrian team is currently lacking. He said: "Let’s see. I don't know. It will depend on a lot of things. But I don't know how the car is going to feel tomorrow. So Monaco can always give you some surprises. But I mean, realistically, from my side, we've been OK in the low speed. But at the same time here, you need to be good on the bumps and the kerbs, which is where we're not that great. So yeah, we'll have to see how it will evolve throughout the weekend."
He then continued about where the RB22 needs to improve: "You want to in every area. We want more grip. You want more power. You want better braking efficiency. You want the tyres to operate in a better window.
"So in that sense, you want to be better everywhere. I think looking at Montreal, we were definitely lacking in the straight, but also in the corners. The ride or in general on the bumps, we were not, let's say, not the best. And, of course, high-speed corners in other places. Now, of course, here there are no high-speed corners, but normally that has not been our biggest strength yet."
Verstappen not excited by driving new cars in Monaco
The Dutchman, who has not minced his words about the 2026 regulations, is not particularly excited by driving the current cars in Monte Carlo. "Maybe," Verstappen laughed when asked whether this is the best track for the 2026 challengers.
"You will see a little bit better now with the wheels. It's probably a little bit more agile in the low speed, but at the same time that comes together with drivability, which with these cars I feel like took a step back compared to last year's car. So we'll see.
"I mean, [qualifying is] still the highlight, I would say, of the weekend in terms of where you need to need to perform. So we'll try to do the best we can there of course," he concluded.
