Max Verstappen was voted the best driver of the season by his fellow F1 drivers, despite narrowly missing out on the title at the final race.
The Dutchman topped Formula 1’s end-of-season drivers’ poll for a fifth consecutive year, with his peers once again recognising the quality of his campaign.
Despite relinquishing the world championship crown, Verstappen finished the season with the most wins, pole positions and laps led — all while spending much of the year in machinery that was, overall, less competitive than the McLaren MCL39.
The Dutchman topped the rankings ahead of the newly crowned world champion Lando Norris in second place. George Russell climbed to third, up one spot on last year after the strongest season of his career, while Oscar Piastri followed closely behind in fourth.

There was a slide to fifth for Charles Leclerc, down two positions compared to 2024, contrasted by a steady sixth place for Carlos Sainz. Fernando Alonso made a notable move up to seventh, gaining two places.
The lower end of the top ten featured several new faces, with Alex Albon, Oliver Bearman and Isack Hadjar all making fresh entries after impressive campaigns.

Hamilton frozen out of F1 team bosses’ top ten drivers of 2025 season

Verstappen was also named the best driver of the season by the team principals, who, much like the fans, left Hamilton out of their top ten altogether.
While the Dutchman can still point to a strong campaign despite the championship heartbreak, the same cannot be said for the seven-time world champion. Hamilton is coming off the toughest season of his career in terms of results, finishing without a single podium to his name.
