England fans gave Oscar Piastri a rather special welcome during the Ashes series. Over the past few days, the fourth Test match of one of the most famous rivalries in international cricket has taken place, contested between the England national cricket team and the Australia national cricket team.
The match was played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne — the hometown of Oscar Piastri — who didn’t miss the chance to attend the event and also spoke to the media during play.
The local hero is coming off a crushing world-title defeat at the hands of his team-mate — who snatched the title away by just 13 points, despite him having led the standings for no fewer than 15 Grands Prix.
During the match, the Barmy Army — the travelling fanbase that follows England’s cricket team around the world — were reportedly heard chanting
“you are just a s*it Lando Norris” at the Australian, who appeared to take it in good spirits and responded with a grin.
Piastri joked about in cheeky 'not a champion like Norris’ dig
The Englishman was quick to seize on the England–Australia rivalry, taking a light-hearted swipe at Piastri by reminding him that he is not the world champion — unlike Lando Norris.
Piastri then also had to stomach a heavy defeat for his national side, which came as early as the second day of play.
