After Yuki Tsunoda was promoted for the Japanese Grand Prix, Red Bull had hoped to find the driver who can be closer to Max Verstappen. However, the Japanese driver could hardly help Verstappen in the Dutchman's quest for the world title so far.
Talking about how he has to battle the two McLarens alone, Verstappen did not throw his teammate under the bus. “Well, I think as a team, naturally, you want both cars in the best possible position,” Verstappen began.
However, the Dutchman also explained that if they would have the best car, there is no need for any help. “But look at the ‘23, for example, like if we have a good car, you will be fast and then it doesn't matter what the other teams do in terms of strategy, because you will beat them.”
“And we have to make sure that we put ourselves back in that position and at the moment, yes, sometimes it works. I mean, in Imola it was fine. I mean, when the car is working and you are comfortable with what you are doing, then it doesn't matter what the other strategies are of the other cars or teams around you, because you just follow your own strongest strategy,” he added.

Verstappen hopes his teammate can improve as well

The Dutchman however hopes as the team could improve, the Japanese driver would have better results as well.
"But naturally as a team, I mean, we want to finish one-two every single weekend, but that's, at the moment, tough. We have very strong competition. McIaren is doing a great job. So yeah, we just keep working, keep trying to improve for myself, for Yuki, naturally. And then, yes, we'll see in the coming races what we can do."
