Max Verstappen couldn’t resist making a joke in the green room about his great starts in recent weeks. Kimi Antonelli, for his part, was also self-critical, laughing at his off-track moments. George Russell raised a completely different issue. Right after the interviews,
Verstappen, Antonelli and Russell ended up together in the so-called green room - the place where drivers can briefly rewatch the race highlights before heading to the podium together. With a camera and microphone nearby, it often leads to great moments.
Verstappen and Antonelli laugh at themselves
As soon as the start footage appeared, Verstappen couldn’t help but comment on his getaway: “Finally not a really bad start for once,” he said in Antonelli’s presence. The Dutchman has had plenty of disastrous starts this season, but in Austria he finally got away okay. It still wasn’t great, but Verstappen did keep his position.
Antonelli, on the other hand, pointed out the mistakes he made. On the opening lap he ran off the track a few times, and upon seeing his first moment he laughed and said, “that’s number 1.”
After that, Russell also entered the room. He turned out to have had an issue with his drinks system for the entire race. He said he’s never had problems with it before, but of all places, it happened now in hot Austria. The odd thing was that Antonelli also indicated he’d had the same issue. Verstappen had no such problems, though due to the heat his water had turned into “tea.”
