George Russell expressed his delight after returning to winning ways at the Austrian Grand Prix, while also praising Max Verstappen and Red Bull for pushing him all the way to the chequered flag.
Russell had not stood on the top step of the podium since the season opener in Australia, breaking a months-long drought as he finally returned to the spotlight and further closed the gap to his teammate in the championship.
Speaking immediately after the race, Russell expressed his delight at returning to the top step of the podium after a long wait. The Briton admitted it had been a while since his last victory and praised the hard work put in by the team to get back on track after a difficult run of form.
"Incredible to be back on the top step. It's been a little while, so I will definitely enjoy this one this evening! A lot of hard work with my team to get us back on track. Obviously it was a tricky run of form at one point."

Russell also praised Verstappen and Red Bull for their pace throughout the weekend, admitting he had to push flat out on every lap with both Verstappen and Antonelli constantly applying pressure from behind. He added that he was aware the final stint would be a long one after pitting early, but credited the team for executing the strategy perfectly.
"Max and Red Bull were incredibly quick this weekend, so kudos to them. I had to push every single lap and I knew how quick the guys were behind. Kimi has been extraordinarily quick this season, so every lap I was looking at the timing board. We pitted on the early side [for the last stop], so I knew it would be a long stint but the team timed it to perfection."
Wrapping up his assessment, Russell admitted the difficult races had tested him mentally, making the past two weekends particularly important in reminding himself what he was capable of. He also highlighted his strong pace over both a single lap and a race distance at a circuit that did not naturally suit his driving style, before turning his focus to next weekend's British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
"The tough races definitely test you psychologically. These last two weekends for me have been vitally important to remind myself I can do it. Single lap, race pace, was very strong this weekend - on a track that was probably not well suited to my style. I look forward to heading to Silverstone!"
