The iconic Las Vegas Strip is up there among the craziest F1 locations but, compared to Max Verstappen’s far-fetched proposal, it appears a little unambitious. Ahead of this year’s
Las Vegas GP, the drivers were asked in the Thursday press conference which ‘crazy location’ they would next like to see featured on the F1 calendar.
While
George Russell and
Fernando Alonso thought carefully about their choices, Verstappen shrugged-off the hypothetical with an absurd two-word answer, to the amusement of those around him.
British driver Russell said: “London, I guess. I don’t think anybody could imagine a street race in London, but nobody probably could imagine a street race here in Vegas. So yeah, I’d like to see that.”
When Alonso was prompted to answer, Russell chimed in with ‘Fernando Alonso’s go-kart track’ in his hometown of Oviedo.
Alonso replied: “Yeah, my hometown. And my go-kart track, making it a bit bigger. It’s unthinkable, so maybe this place was unthinkable as well.”
As the question turned to Verstappen, he sat back in his chair and simply answered: "North Pole." This appeared to amuse his fellow drivers and interviewer Tom Clarkson, who chuckled before moving the press conference on to the next question from the floor.
