Just over half an hour before the start of the Dutch Grand Prix, heavy rain has begun to fall at Zandvoort, leaving it uncertain whether the race will get underway on wet or dry tyres. The teams on the grid have put up tents to protect the cars from the rain as they wait for the storm to pass and conditions to improve enough for them to be taken down.
At the moment, a conventional standing start does not appear to be at risk. However, should the rain intensify rather than ease over the next few minutes, the possibility of starting behind the Safety Car with a rolling start could also come into play.
With 20 minutes to go before the start, the rain has stopped falling at Zandvoort, although there is still uncertainty over whether the track will dry sufficiently for the drivers to start the race on slick tyres.
