As the fight for the 2025 Formula 1 world championship intensifies, former F1 champion Emerson Fittipaldi has weighed in on the conversation. The 78-year-old has named who he considers the favourite for the title between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. The two-time F1 champion, who recently spoke on the Motorsports Brazil podcast, highlighted that he sees Piastri as having a better chance of clinching the title than Norris. Fittipaldi also praised Norris for his abilities in extreme conditions.
“I also think that Piastri has a better chance, because Piastri is more consistent, colder. Lando in extremes, for example, in the wet, he is very fast. Suddenly, he takes a position when someone expects it, he has some races where, suddenly, he comes really fast. So, I think it will be really cool for us to watch the two compete. “
Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris are currently separated by nine points with 10 races left on the 2025 calendar. Both
McLaren drivers have continued to be vocal about their aim of clinching a maiden Formula 1 crown.

Fittipaldi also weighed in on McLaren’s decision to allow both their drivers to fight it out on the race track. The Brazilian motorsport icon noted that the Woking-based outfit not showing preference to either driver makes things particularly exciting.
“Zak Brown and Andrea Stella, they let the two fight each other, right? There won’t be any preference for any of them, which I think is really cool. So, it’s going to be a championship that will be very reminiscent of Ayrton’s time with Alain, right? Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost at McLaren too.”
