While unusual holiday activities are not uncommon for Formula 1 drivers, it's not every day you see a driver embarking on a rescue mission. Well, this was the fate of Carlos Sainz during his holiday in Mallorca.
The Williams Racing driver found himself underwater and for a rather bizarre reason — rescuing a ladder. The 30-year-old, who has spent a huge chunk of his mid-season break in his native Spain, had a moment when the ladder attached to his boat fell into the sea.
Sainz, who was aboard the boat when this happened, swiftly opted to save the day. With a rope and underwater googles, the former Scuderia Ferrari driver took an 11-meter dive to recover the ladder in the water. Sainz would subsequently share footage of the rather unusual incident on his Instagram.

Carlos Sainz’s 2025 season so far

Carlos Sainz, who at some point was at the thick of the F1 drivers’ market in 2024, would eventually opt for a switch to the Willia Racing team for the 2025 campaign. The Spanish driver has, however, enjoyed relative success at the Grove-based outfit.
Despite still some way off the performance teammate Alex Albon has often produced, the 30-year-old has recorded points in seven of the 14 Grand Prixs held so far. Sainz has, however, expressed his optimism with regard to the future with the Williams team.
