Team scores in Hungary: Alpine excels, Mercedes again low

The last race before the summer break is over. The GP of Hungary was surprisingly won by Esteban Ocon and Alpine after a crazy race. Plenty has happened, so how are the teams scoring this week? These are the figures given to them by GPblog.com this week.

With both drivers in the top ten before the start, there seemed to be a great opportunity for points, but the team would eventually win the race with Esteban Ocon was not expected by anyone. Fernando Alonso played an important role by holding off Lewis Hamilton, who was significantly faster than Ocon. A great result for Alpine and that deserves a lot of praise.

The moment is finally there, the team scored their first points of the season in Hungary. Both Nicholas Latifi and George Russell finished in the points. The team makes a jump to eighth place in the Constructors' Championship and that is rewarded.

Double points for the AlphaTauri team! With a P6 and P7 they achieved a good result. A team order was given to let Pierre Gasly pass Yuki Tsunoda, because he was clearly faster.

After a blunder by Lance Stroll at the start, it was up to Sebastian Vettel to score points for the team. Due to a bad pit stop by the team, the German didn't manage to take the first spot from Ocon, which cost them a point less. It also remains to be seen if Vettel will keep his second spot, as the FIA discovered a problem with his amount of fuel.

It was another dramatic weekend for Red Bull Racing, but that was out of the team's control. Max Verstappen was hit by a Mercedes again on the opening lap and drove the rest of the race with significant damage, but still managed to pick up a point. Sergio Perez crashed out due to the same collision with Bottas and could do nothing. Red Bull could've tried an alternative strategy by putting Verstappen on the slicks for the restart. And they lost out in an undercut from Hamilton which could've slowed Hamilton down more.

Charles Leclerc was also one of the many victims on the first lap. Carlos Sainz seemed to have the speed to go after Vettel and Ocon for a moment, but in the end he was no threat. With that, Ferrari finished just outside the podium. Sainz will be promoted with Vettel's disqualification remains in place.

Nikita Mazepin was eliminated early in the race by Kimi Raikkonen, who hit him in the pit lane. The Haas car has been lacking a lot this year and is clearly the worst car on the grid. Still, Mick Schumacher had some great moments with Verstappen and Hamilton among others on the track.

After a strong qualifying by Mercedes and two drivers on the first row of the grid, things were looking good for the team. Unfortunately, Valtteri Bottas made a big mistake in the first corner by braking too late and caused several drivers to be hit and Lando Norris and Sergio Perez to be out of the race. Things also went wrong on strategy, as Lewis Hamilton failed to come in for a tyre change at the restart and had to start from the back of the grid again. The Briton also had difficulty passing Alonso.

Due to Bottas' blunder, Lando Norris, unfortunately, crashed out, but Daniel Ricciardo again had problems with his car. After a spin at the start he had to start from the back, but there was not much overtaking to be done. Zero points in Hungary.

It was not a memorable race for Alfa Romeo. Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi both finished outside the points and Raikkonen caused Mazepin to retire.
