Günther Steiner has said that the current state of affairs in the Formula One is unlike we've seen before, as there's a small gap between all of the teams behind the three contending teams (Mercedes, Ferrari & Red Bull).
The 52-year-old Haas team boss thinks the normal construction of a F1-grid is no longer there: Previously, there usually were two or three teams that were fighting for wins, followed by the middle pack, and after that there are the few teams that usually end in last few places every race. Steiner argues that that last category no longer exists, as "there are no weak teams anymore."
"This is a new Formula 1," he said "Never was the midfield more competitive. At the front are the three top teams, who drive in their own league. But the rest is close together, very close together. There are no weak racing teams anymore."
"We finished eighth last year, but we were in the middle of the fight for sixth place. In the end, only eight points were missing. That's not great, but it's not a disaster. We were not so happy with the end result, but that's the way it is in racing."
Even though Haas has impressed during the testing weeks in Barcelona, Steiner refuses to think of his team at the upper end of the table, as "we do not get points for a good performance in the test. We have to make it this year to make the most of our opportunities. "
