Max Verstappen's pole-position lap has caused a great deal of astonishment. Peter Windsor already said it was one of the Dutchman's best laps ever. Sky Sports analyst Anthony Davidson analysed the lap from the Red Bull Racing driver and also praised Verstappen. In the first corner of his lap, Verstappen had a slight moment. Davidson noticed that the Dutchman managed to correct it: “We all saw what happened to him in Turn 1. He's had a little bit of oversteer, but he catches it, and he controls it just enough that it doesn't cost him too much momentum, and like he said in the interview before, it's all about the tyre management. They purposely drive a slow out lap, and you know that you're running the risk there in turn one, because you need your tyres there for you at the end of the lap."
Davidson impressed with Verstappen
Then, Davidson also compared Verstappen's seventh and eighth corners with those of Oscar Piastri's. Where the Australian lost time exiting the corner, the Red Bull Racing driver actually gained time. He also noted that Lando Norris turned in too early in corner 11 and that George Russell had to compensate in corner 6, unlike Verstappen.
After his analysis of Verstappen's lap, Davidson stated: “I hope that puts it into perspective, really impressive stuff."
