Robert Shwartzman will make his appearance during a first free practice session. The Russian, driving under the Israeli flag, may act on behalf of Ferrari during FP1 for the US Grand Prix.

Talented Ferrari junior

The 22-year-old Shwartzman was considered a great talent in the step-up classes and was coached by Ferrari up to Formula 2. The next step unfortunately did not come for Shwartzman. Mick Schumacher was preferred by Haas and at Alfa Romeo there is no place for a Ferrari junior anymore. Despite an F3 title and second place in F2, he will therefore have to make do with a reserve role at Ferrari since 2022.
Shwartzman, born in Israel and also racing under that flag since the war in Ukraine, was already supposed to come out during free practice in Abu Dhabi in 2020, but that test did not take place then. In 2021, he did participate on behalf of Haas during the post-season test in Abu Dhabi, but his free practice in Austin will be his first official participation in an F1 session. It is possible that a second FP1 will follow in 2022 for Shwartzman later in the season.
