Ma Verstappen has been tipped to replace Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari by former F1 driver, Ralf Schumacher, since the Dutchman and the Scuderia, in the German's view, could be a great match. On Thursday Verstappen said to
GPblog that
a move to Ferrari is not at all out of the question, but should it come to pass, it would have to be under the right terms, i.e, that Maranello produces a car that can fight for wins and titles.
After clinching pole on Saturday afternoon, Verstappen raced to his third win of the season, third triumph at Monza in the last four years, in a dominant fashion, which according to team principal Toto Wolff 'made everyone look stupid.'
A-top the rostrum, Verstappen then relished in the chantings from the emotional crowd. The former F1 driver turned analyst, Schumacher, also noticed the tifosi's passion for Verstappen as well.
Verstappen and Ferrari 'a great match'
"It felt like the whole crowd was shouting 'Max Verstappen'," Schumacher said in
Sky's Backstage Boxengasse podcast. "I already have the feeling that the Italians can well imagine that the fastest man in the field will soon be sitting in the Ferrari." For Schumacher, Verstappen's fit at Ferrari goes beyond what the Dutchman and the Scuderia show on track, making the assertion that the reigning world champion's personal life communes well with the Maranello-based outfit.
"I have to say quite honestly that - and I don't know about you - when I see Fred Vasseur [Ferrari team principal] today as a person and also what Ferrari embodies on site, plus Max in his current situation with his family, two children: Somehow I have the feeling That could be a great match."
Even though the German sees that Lewis Hamilton's situation could potentially shift with the incoming switch to new regulations come 2026
"Everything starts from scratch. It may be that his driving style suits the new concepts much better." Nevertheless the German still believes Verstappen would fit much better at the Italian team "in terms of attitude".
