Russell still no points: “My heart is broken”

During the Grand Prix of Tuscany at Mugello, George Russell drove his thirtieth race in Formula 1. However, there was not much to celebrate, as once again no points were scored for the Williams driver.

For a long time the British driver drove around in the top 10, with great battles with, among others, both Ferrari drivers and Kimi Raikkonen. It looked like the Williams driver was finally going to score his first points, but a bad restart after the crash of Lance Stroll threw a spanner in the works. "My heart is broken," says a disappointed Russell on Speedweek.com. "The whole team had worked so hard to get us to the front and I could hold on so well to ninth place that I really thought - this time it would work".

"The car felt great", continues the 22-year-old driver. "Sebastian [Vettel] and Charles [Leclerc] were behind me and couldn't go any faster on the same tyres". Until the second restart. "I don't know why I got off so badly at the third start. I did nothing but normal. Maybe it was because the tyres were not properly warmed up. I'm very disappointed because we would have scored points".

With his thirtieth Grand Prix without points Russell is starting to come into an illustrious row. Only five drivers remained pointless in Formula 1 for longer; Luca Badoer (51 races), Charles Pic (39 races), Max Chilton (35 races), Brett Lunger (34 races) and Toranosuke Takagi (32 races). The last driver to score points for Williams was Robert Kubica at the German Grand Prix in 2019.
