Pat Fry will start working for
Renault on Wednesday, February 5. The former
McLaren technical director announced the move back in November prior to the end of the 2019
Formula 1 season. He was forced to sit on the sidelines for a period of time due to contractual agreements.
He comes into the Renault team to replace Nick Chester after he departed his role in December. The French team will host a season launch event a week after Fry arrives in the team. They will launch their 2020 challenger at the season launch event.
Daniel Ricciardo has previously said he is looking forward to working with Fry.
“So with Pat coming in, I have not met him or worked with him before, but he obviously has a lot of experience, so looking forward to that. More so just from what I see from the team in terms of recognising that there are still some places where we can be better. So we are acting on that and I like that initiative from them," Ricciardo told Motorsport week in November.
Fry worked for
McLaren between 1993 and 2010, before making a return in 2018. He has also been part of the Ferrari garage and Manor until the team collapsed in 2016.
