Nikola Tsolov has been a member of Red Bull’s Junior Team since late 2024, when Helmut Marko was still working with the programme. Ahead of the Miami Grand Prix weekend, the Bulgarian revealed that the two still speak, despite uncertainty surrounding his future with Red Bull.
Before Marko retired at the end of the 2025 season, he had a working relationship with the Red Bull juniors. Now, it’s been revealed that he still keeps in contact with at least one of them, Tsolov.
Tsolov is currently leading the Formula 2 championship after winning the Australian Grand Prix feature race. On the Thursday before the Miami Grand Prix, he revealed to select media, "Actually, he texted me congratulations after winning in Australia, which was nice to see.”
He added, “[Marko] still follows [Formula 2], even though it was very early in Europe. I'm glad to see he's still very passionate about it. I'm sure he's still involved in some of the stuff. It's good to see him. I kind of miss him sometimes, actually.”

Tsolov is currently the only Red Bull Junior racing in Formula 2. Last year, Arvid Lindblad competed in Formula 2 before being promoted to Racing Bulls for the 2026 Formula 1 season. However, the Bulgarian is unsure of his place within the Red Bull pipeline.
To meet the rookie test requirements, Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls must put a rookie in for at least four FP1 sessions each (two per car per team). As it stands, Tsolov does not know whether he will be selected, saying: "There is currently nothing planned."
“I definitely want to make my Formula 1 debut at some point, but it depends on my results. If I keep performing like this, I should expect something like that to happen soon, and I will certainly get the opportunity. However, we have only had one round so far, so it will take some time to see how things develop.”
Tsolov went on to win the Miami sprint race and extend his championship lead. However, after not finishing the feature race, he now hangs on to his lead by one point over Rafael Câmara and Gabriele Minì.
Formula 2 returns during the Canadian Grand Prix weekend on 22-24 May.
