Pierre Gasly expected a positive result with a P3 start in qualifying, but he was let down by his Renault engine, which broke just before the halfway point in the Las Vegas Grand Prix. A puff of smoke was seen coming out of the Alpine car, and that was met with a frustrated radio message from the Frenchman.
Gasly became the first driver to retire from the race. The Alpine driver started from P3 and looked set to score crucial points in the 'Sin City'.
