Perez satisfied despite crash in FP2 at Monza: 'Was a very strong Friday'

Sergio Perez saw his first day at Monza with a crash, after which he could not get his Red Bull Racing car out of the gravel. Despite this, the Mexican believes he had a "very strong Friday".

In the last ten minutes of the second free practice session, things went wrong for Perez. Coming out of Parabolica, the Red Bull driver slid off the track and hit the wall with his rear wing. After this, he failed to get out of the gravel, forcing his RB19 to be towed away, resulting in the red flag being waved.

"I understeered off at the exit and tried to keep it nailed. I thought I had it under control, but then I touched a little bit of the gravel, and that was it — game over," Perez explained to Sky Sports.

According to the Mexican, the crash did not have a big impact. "It doesn’t look too bad, the damage; it was fairly small, and I don’t think we lost anything there at the end — two laps, so nothing representative in that regard," Perez put it into perspective.

Despite his crash, he is quite satisfied with his first day in Monza. "The positive is that the car is performing well. I’m feeling comfortable with it, and I feel that we’re in a good position for the rest of the weekend. I really felt that we had a very strong Friday," he continued.

The Mexican, therefore, looks forward to the rest of the Grand Prix weekend in Italy with a positive feeling. "We’ve been working really hard. I think we’ve found some positive steps in the car, so hopefully we can show it tomorrow and Sunday," Perez said.
