Former Formula 1 driver Jack Doohan has confirmed his return to competitive racing, securing a move to endurance racing with Nielsen Racing.
The 23-year-old, who endured a brief stint in Formula 1, joins the British outfit to compete in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS).
Doohan’s move to the sports car team will see him drive the #24 LMP2 Oreca machine, joining Briton Ed Pearson and Israeli Roy Nissany. The deal comes in time for the start of the 2026 ELMS season, with the 4 Hours of Barcelona opener – at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya – scheduled for April 12.
Following his exit from Alpine after just six races, where he was replaced by Franco Colapinto, Doohan was briefly linked with a move to the Japanese Super Formula series before ultimately joining the Haas F1 outfit to serve as a reserve driver for the American team.

Doohan reacts to ELMS move

Sharing his excitement about returning to active competition, Doohan spoke positively about the opportunity and the challenge ahead. The Australian acknowledged the steep learning curve but expressed confidence in adapting quickly.
“I’m really excited to be back racing in 2026 and to be joining Nielsen Racing for my first season in LMP2. It’s a new challenge with a lot to learn, but I’m confident we’ll get up to speed quickly with such a strong team around me.
“With Roy Nissany and Ed Pearson, we have a great mix of experience and hunger, and I’m looking forward to building strong chemistry and pushing for results. The Oreca 07 is a fantastic car and a very different challenge, and I can’t wait to get started in the European Le Mans Series.”
