Oscar Piastri and McLaren are still unhappy with the FIA after Piastri's deleted qualifying lap in Austria. Piastri revealed the answers given by the sports governing body weren't taken well and calls for improvements to be made. His comments come after his team bosses Zak Brown and Andrea Stella have been critical of the FIA over the weekend.

Piastri fell foul of track limits in Austria, still unhappy

Despite a cleaner Q3 session at Silverstone, the debate around track limits from Austria continues. Oscar Piastri had his best lap time deleted in Q3 at last weekend's Austrian Grand Prix despite appearing to still be within the limits set by the FIA ahead of the weekend. This forced him to start the race seventh, and believes that if his lap wasn't deleted, he could have been in a position to take advantage of his teammate's collision with Max Verstappen.
Speaking to GPblog and others in the paddock after qualifying at the British Grand Prix, Piastri revealed track limits were brought up in Saturday's driver briefing, but that he was still unhappy with the response he got from the sport's governing body. "They were pretty poor, let's leave it at that. There's nothing now. It's between us and the FIA. The methodology of deleting the lap was not correct. That was obviously quite frustrating and we tried to appeal. Tried to do everything we could to have it looked at. But there's no way in the rules to do it. So yeah, that was frustrating, especially given the events of the race."
Piastri went further to admit that the FIA will never agree with all the drivers and teams, but that progress has been made between drivers and the FIA. "I very much sympathise with them that it's not an easy thing to do case by case. We made good progress, understanding where everyone was coming from. Just, yeah, I think on all sides we want to just make the show better."
