Home hero Fernando Alonso was summoned to the stewards in Barcelona after crossing the white line at the pit exit during the second free practice session. Sergio Perez was also called before the officials for speeding in the pit lane, but both drivers ultimately escaped without any significant consequences. After reviewing the footage, the stewards determined that the outside edge of Alonso's left-front wheel had crossed the white line at the pit exit. However, they opted not to impose any penalty, instead issuing the Spaniard with a warning for the incident.
The two-time world champion endured another difficult session, with Aston Martin once again occupying the final two positions on the timesheets. Both drivers finished more than four seconds adrift
of pace-setter Lando Norris, as Mercedes-powered cars dominated proceedings on a circuit where engine performance plays a far greater role than it did at Monaco just one week ago.
In addition to Alonso's warning, Cadillac was also sanctioned by the stewards during Friday's running. The American outfit received a €500 fine after Sergio Perez exceeded the pit lane speed limit by 4.4 km/h, surpassing the 80 km/h limit in place for the
Spanish Grand Prix weekend.
Alonso admits Barcelona 2026 could be his final home Formula 1 race
Ahead of his home race weekend, Alonso admitted that this year's Spanish Grand Prix could potentially be
his final F1 appearance in Barcelona, adding extra emotional weight to the event. The Aston Martin driver acknowledged the special connection he has with the circuit and the fans who have supported him throughout his career, making it a weekend he is particularly keen to enjoy.
However, despite the significance of the occasion, Alonso remains realistic about Aston Martin's prospects. The two-time world champion does not expect the team to be in contention near the front and suggested that extracting the maximum from the package will be the primary objective as he looks to make the most of what could be a farewell appearance in front of his home crowd.
"It's going to be a special weekend. Probably my last Barcelona race in Formula 1, so I want to say thanks to everyone. I will try to enjoy the weekend. I will not be competitive and I will not be too long in the car in qualifying."
