Mercedes Team Principal, Toto Wolff, has praised McLaren after securing both the Drivers' and Constructors' World Championships in 2025. Yeah, they are deserving world champions. They've done an outstanding job last year, they've done a very good job this year. Even if it got close, I'm happy for the team.
- Toto WolffLando Norris secured his first drivers' world championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, despite the threat and pressure of Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri. McLaren also secured the Constructors' championship back in Singapore, and ended up scoring 833 points altogether.
Wolff however, has endured a strange and seemingly difficult season with Mercedes. George Russell and Kimi Antonelli were able to secure victories and podiums at various points in the season, however were ultimately unable to take the fight to McLaren or Red Bull's Max Verstappen, over the course of the season.
However, constructors champions, McLaren, have been using a Mercedes engine since 2021, so the German manufacturer has played a significant role in the outcome of the championship.
Speaking about McLaren becoming champions in 2025, Wolff stated: "Yeah, they are deserving world champions. They've done an outstanding job last year, they've done a very good job this year. Even if it got close, I'm happy for the team."
At the helm of Mercedes, Wolff has been able to give the German manufacturer eight constructors' world championships and seven drivers' championships throughout the 2010's and early 2020's, before the recent ground effect era that began in 2022 and concluded, following the 2025 Abu Dhabi GP.
Wolff added: "Obviously, having a Mercedes engine there is nice, but fundamentally the prevailing feeling that I have today is, we finished second in the {Constructors} championship, that's respectable, but finishing off with a really mediocre race is just hanging over us."
Mercedes managed to successfully hold off Red Bull to secure second place in the constructors' championship, Red Bull Racing closing the season just 18-points behind the German manufacturer.
