Mercedes have claimed they remain unsure about whether both drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will receive a penalty or not. The duo retired during the Austrian Grand Prix with two separate incidents.
British driver Hamilton picked up a fuel-pump issue after Bottas retired with a hydraulic failure. In the process of fixing the parts, they believe they won't have to replace anything that will land them with a grid penalty.
Techincal director James Allison remained unsure in an interview on GP fans.
"Entirely separate failures, and neither of them in any way related to the introduction of the new power unit. Are we going to have any consequential replacements of parts that might cause us sporting penalties? We hope not.
"We think both of the failures that we had were confined to the items that failed, and they're both things that can be replaced without having to break into the sealed areas of the car which attract sporting penalties."
"Where a failure happens and the system is then shut down in a manner that is unusual, and the car an suffer all manner of unknown gremlins."
The Silver Arrow tends to run better with the lower tread tyre which Pirelli are bringing to Silverstone. The German team and Hamilton have won both races, Spain and France, on this kind of tyre.
Any penalties may spoil the day for home British fans as Hamilton looks to grab his sixth victory on home soil. If he does so, he will become the British driver with the most wins at the British Grand Prix.
