Charles Leclerc hails his Sauber engineers for their work on developing the car through the season. During 2016/17 the team scored just seven points. A total which has already been beaten by Leclerc in 2018 alone.
It's not just performances on Sunday which have worked a treat. Since Azerbaijan, Leclerc hasn't missed out on Q2. This run of good qualifying included his first drive in the final qualifying session in France.
The eye-catching performances have forced rumours of a move to Ferrari replacing Kimi Raikkonen. But the man from Monaco is keen to thank his current team.
"The team is doing an incredible job as we can see," Leclerc said in an interview on motorsport week.
"At the beginning of the year, we started not even going into Q2 - but I think the team has also made a step forward, and I made a step forward, and together we managed to do good results every weekend.
"Overall I'm very proud of the team, they are always going in the same direction which is a good direction and I'm very happy about that."
Pundits and former drivers have said they want Leclerc to have another year at Sauber or another midfield team to learn the ropes.
It'll be a big risk for Ferrari to take him on, and yes the 20-year-old still makes many mistakes. But the Italian team may reap the rewards in two seasons time should they take the plunge.
