Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri both weighed in on the incident between Max Verstappen and George Russell during the closing stages of the Spanish Grand Prix, which resulted in a ten-second penalty and three penalty points on Verstappen’s FIA super licence.
While Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and George Russell were busy battling it out on track during the final five laps of the Spanish Grand Prix, the two McLaren drivers managed to stay out of trouble during the chaotic restart following the Safety Car triggered by Kimi Antonelli. Oscar Piastri went on to claim his fifth win of the season, finishing ahead of his teammate Lando Norris.
The contact between the four-time world champion and the Mercedes driver sparked a lot of debate among fans and experts alike, with Nico Rosberg even calling for the Dutchman’s disqualification, considering his move unsportsmanlike.
On the matter, the two McLaren drivers couldn’t obviously avoid commenting either, and they were involved in a fun little exchange at the end of the race.
''Oscar told me you some interesting opinions on it, so I'm gonna pass straight over to you'', Lando said, passing the ball to his teammate.
''In all honesty, don't fully get the context of what happened'', Piastri responded. ''It looked a bit strange, like I thought he was giving the position back and then... Give the place back to George because of Turn 1. He gave the place back and then that happened. Yeah, so I mean, I don't really get what happened there. Like, I don't know if it was a misunderstanding, whether he didn't break. I don't really know''.
''I think I need bit more context on what happened but it obviously was not exactly a small touch so I don't have that much more but it obviously didn't look great''.
Finally, Norris wrapped it up by saying ''I don't think it's something for me to comment on that''.
