Brundle declares there's a 'turning point' in the championship: 'He's back'

For the first time since the Austrian Grand Prix's Sprint, Max Verstappen could step on the podium after a race. Even as it was a Sprint event at the Circuit of the Americas, Sky Sports pundit and former F1 driver Martin Brundle believes it is a turning point in the championship.

Entering this weekend's US Grand Prix, the gap between championship contenders Max Verstappen and Lando Norris stood at 52 points. After the Sprint, where the Dutchman could eventually win in a confident way, the gap was increased by a futher two points. The Dutchman's performance also caught the eye of Martin Brundle.

"When we look back on this season and the twists and turns, the pivotal points, the Sprint earlier will be one of those. Max suddenly looked like the Max and Red Bull of old. He won from pole and was happy with his car. That was a turning point and he increased the gap to Lando," the Briton said on Sky Sports.

The weekend now continues with qualifying in Austin, Texas, and then with the Grand Prix on Sunday, where another 26 points are up for grabs. In Friday's Sprint Qualifying, Verstappen could set the fastest time as well, while Norris finished in P4. Teams will now be able to make changes to their car.
