The Austrian also named their goal for Sunday's Grand Prix: "Of course, the starting position is crucial, but as long as we stay ahead of both McLarens, that is already a success."
Oscar Piastri finished third in qualifying, while Lando Norris set the fifth quickest time.

Marko not happy with Norris 'blocking Max'

Marko was not impressed with the McLaren driver after the session. The Briton was in front of Verstappen on his final flying lap in Q3.
"He completely blocked Max in the final two corners. For Norris, there was nothing to gain, so I just don’t understand it. I hope he simply didn’t look in his mirrors. I can’t imagine it was intentional," he commented.

The championship standings

Verstappen currently trails championship leader by 69 points in the standings. He is also 44 points behind Norris.
