Helmut Marko being pleased with Arvid Lindblad, the rising talent from Red Bull's junior program, is well known. At
Silverstone, the young talent participated in a Formula 1 session for the first time. During the
first free practice of the weekend, he was in Yuki Tsunoda's car.
Marko spoke highly of Lindblad after the race weekend in Britain. “Formula 2 driver Arvid Lindblad drove for the first time for Red Bull Racing during the
free practice at Silverstone, and in our
opinion, the teenager performed excellently – his speed was good, his
statements were thoughtful, and the technicians are very satisfied with his
performance,” he wrote in his column for Speedweek on Wednesday. All
the footage of Lindblad and his debut in Silverstone have been captured by Red Bull
and compiled into a video.
By now, the Red Bull Racing driver has added even more
miles in the tank. “Lindblad got back into the car the week after the Grand Prix of
Silverstone, completed more than 100 laps, and showed an excellent physical condition and competitive lap times.”
What Lindblad thought of his debut
After his Formula 1 debut, the driver said the following. “I
knew it would be a big deal to be the only driver besides Max to debut under eighteen. I was also quite nervous, but I just tried to
keep calm and focus on my task.”
He is only 17 years old, but Lindblad already has a
superlicense allowing him to participate in Formula 1 races. Normally,
these are only issued when a driver reaches the age of eighteen, but an exception was made for the British-Swedish driver. This
exception had previously been made for Red Bull driver Max Verstappen. This is one reason why Lindblad is seen as ‘the new Verstappen.'
