Liam Lawson has expressed his surprise at an unexpected show of support ahead of the Singapore GP weekend, coming from an attendant on an Air New Zealand flight arriving to the country.
Following Friday's action at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, a fan's tweet went viral after claiming that an Air New Zealand flight attendant, upon arrival into Singapore, decided to remind passengers it was an F1 race weekend, prompting a shout of "Go Liam!"
Lawson, qualifying in P8 for the Sprint - the final points position - ought to have put a smile on fans' faces with an impressive P5 finish on Saturday, which was then backed up with a P9 in Grand Prix Qualifying, four tenths ahead of Racing Bull's teammate Arvid Lindblad.

Despite claiming his first Q3 appearance for Racing Bulls since the British GP in July - having done so for Red Bull in his three-race stint after F1's return from the summer break - Lawson was not best pleased with the result in Singapore.
Asked whether he was happy with P9, Lawson told media, including GPblog: "Not really. It's been a very strong weekend so far, though. So I'm obviously very happy with where the car's at. We've had a strong quali yesterday. Strong quali today, just Q3 didn't quite come together. So a little bit frustrating, but obviously tomorrow's the important day."
Nevertheless, Lawson was pleased with the level of Kiwi support throughout the Singapore GP weekend, he said: "It's been really good. Every year I come here, and there's more New Zealand flags. So it's it's very, very cool to see."
When told that an Air New Zealand flight announcement shared messages of support for the 24-year-old, Lawson was pleasantly surprised.
"No way! That's super cool. I didn't know that. Yeah, that's very, very cool," an excited Racing Bulls driver said.
