Lewis Hamilton hits out circuit designers: 'It's frustrating'

Ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the grid travelled to the Madring in the Spanish capital, where overtaking proved to be particularly difficult. In Baku, the Ferrari driver questioned how such a track was designed in the first place.

He said: "They are making some of these tracks where you just cannot overtake. And it's frustrating.

"I don't know who is designing them, but out," the seven-time Formula 1 champion added while also making the same gesture with his hand.

The Briton asked, "Like, anyone else here want to design a track?" The crowd responded with a roar in Baku. Hamilton then added: "Yeah, I am pretty certain there's lots of people here that would just be able to do a better job, with some of the ones coming up!"

He then concluded: "Sorry, I don't have a filter. I don't know where I'm supposed to get my filter from."

The Ferrari driver crossed the finish line only in sixth place in Baku, as the Scuderia is yet to score a podium since the summer break this year.

Hamilton also pointed to the deployment advantage enjoyed by Ferrari’s rivals in Baku, explaining that it made defending into several corners far more difficult than usual.

"These guys just seem to just power, power, power everywhere, which is pretty crazy to see," Hamilton reacted.

He added: "For me, all weekend, it was switching the tyres on. Just all weekend, I don’t think I ever really got the tyres to switch on. And I can’t quite grasp why that is the case with our car."

Hamilton remains third in the drivers' standings, but his gap to championship leader Kimi Antonelli now stands at 103 points.
